UNDER 12 RESULT: Potton United Youth 1-1 Ely

Last game of the Season and a trip to Ely. The boys knew a win would result in second place and promotion.

Ely were mid table and had pride to play for. Ely played some nice football at times and were better than their position suggested.

Potton started slow but grew into the game and had four good chances to take the lead in the first half.

Jake came on as a 30th minute sub and moments later he took a great corner which ended up in the back of the net to give Potton the lead going into half time.

The boys were told the next goal was vital and to get it to kill the game off. As has happened in a lot of games this season we got into some great positions but just lacked the cutting edge.

In injury time Ely's goalie came up and was adjudged to have been fouled resulting in a very soft and dubious penalty which was scored with the last kick off the game.

Not a fitting end to the season and the boys were gutted along with supporters and management.

Men of the match went to Kyran for a battling performance in midfield despite being poorly midweek and Jed for a great second half display on the right wing.

Nigel and I are very proud of all the players efforts throughout the season. At one stage due to injuries we were worried we may not be able to fulfil our fixtures like a lot of other teams due to COVID etc. We had six new players this season in Isaac, Jed, Noah, Sam, Luke and Henry who settled in great and are a credit to themselves.

Our results since we came back have been magnificent and the boys never say die attitude has stood out and they remained composed against some poorly behaved teams.

They are a credit to themselves, parents and Potton Youth.

We will hopefully keep the majority of the players going into the new season and with one or two additions we will hopefully be celebrating this time next season.

Nigel and I have agreed we will continue to coach/manage until Under 18's so we have three more seasons of laughs and ups and downs!
