First game of the season saw us make the trip to Sutton who finished just above us last year in the league.
Sutton were on top to start as we made a slow start but we took the lead via a shot from MJ being helped on its way for a first goal for Aaron.
Sutton hit back and scored through a penalty and quickly gained a second through some poor defending.
A change of formation was called for and the boys seemed a lot more comfortable.
A lovely corner from MJ was headed in by Sam and it was great to see us score from a set piece which the boys have been working on in training.
A goal from Olly Young saw us take the lead. Another effort from Olly Young resulted in him hitting the post.
As was the case last year there was some sly dirty play from their number 10 which resulted in Sam, Alfie, Charlie and Noah all receiving nasty stud marks and Olly Young having his hand being stood on. This was raised to the ref who missed every challenge which Nigel and I could clearly see from our side. Queue the usual antics from the Sutton Manager and linesman and the ref telling Nigel to shut up as he was dealing with! Obviously not hence us raising the point and looking after our boys.
We scored another goal soon after the discussion which was ruled offside.
We went into the break leading 3-2. Alfie and Olly Young spoke to the ref at half time and raised points once again and that they wanted to play football and have some protection.
The second half was an even affair with us better for the first twenty minutes and trying to get the fourth goal to kill the game off. Sutton scored a third after us not clearing the lines which resulted in a share of the points.
A draw was a fair result on the balance of play and a good performance from all the lads with some playing out of position and trying new things.
Next Saturday we are due to play Plantation away, who won the league last year, who we took four points off.
We will have Kieran back which is a bonus and it should be another tasty affair!
Man of the match went to Ben for a composed start in central defence.
